Data la natura interconnessa del nostro mondo, anche piccole decisioni o eventi apparentemente isolati possono mettere in moto una catena di eventi con conseguenze di vasta portata che si riverberano nel tempo.
Il fenomeno del domino evidenzia come un'azione possa catalizzare numerose reazioni successive in vari ambiti. Diventa evidente che ogni scelta che facciamo ha implicazioni potenziali che vanno ben oltre noi stessi o la nostra situazione immediata.

Storia.
La diffusione globale di Internet ha portato forse alla trasformazione politica, culturale e sociale più ambiziosa della storia umana.
L’accesso senza precedenti alle informazioni di miliardi di persone ha portato a incredibili opportunità e allo sblocco del potenziale umano. Ma nella stessa misura, ciò ha portato al controllo totale della popolazione da parte dello Stato, di individui e società, di manipolazione dell’opinione pubblica e di frode. Vale la pena notare che la concentrazione di tutte le informazioni sugli utenti dalle aziende tecnologiche a cui hanno pieno accesso, offre loro un incredibile vantaggio competitivo.
Osservando e analizzando queste tendenze, nel 2009 è nata l’idea di creare un progetto, esclusivamente per le proprie esigenze.
Project, in cui fosse possibile comunicare e archiviare informazioni senza timore di fughe di notizie e accessi da parte di terzi. Ma le massicce rivelazioni degli ultimi anni da parte di Julian Assange e Edward Snowden ci hanno costretto a ripensare alle nostre idee autocentrate e ad espanderle su scala globale. Il concetto di privacy assoluta è stato messo a capo del progetto. È iniziata la preparazione: descrizioni, termini di riferimento, team building e raccolta fondi. Il progetto ha richiesto notevoli risorse finanziarie. I tentativi di ottenere investimenti si sono scontrati con requisiti inaccettabili, che spesso andavano contro il paradigma del progetto. E solo dopo otto lunghi anni, nel 2017, abbiamo avuto l’opportunità di realizzare questo progetto da soli, indipendentemente da chiunque.

Guidate soprattutto dal settore privato, le tecnologie digitali che sfruttano continuamente i dati legati alla vita delle persone stanno progressivamente penetrando nel tessuto sociale, culturale, economico e politico delle società moderne. Tecnologie sempre più potenti ad alta intensità di dati, come i big data e l’intelligenza artificiale, minacciano di creare un ambiente digitale intrusivo in cui sia gli Stati sia le imprese commerciali sono in grado di sorvegliare, analizzare, prevedere e persino manipolare il comportamento delle persone a un livello senza precedenti. Sebbene sia innegabile che le tecnologie basate sui dati possano essere utilizzate in modo estremamente vantaggioso, questi sviluppi tecnologici comportano rischi molto significativi per la dignità umana, l’autonomia e la privacy e l’esercizio dei diritti umani in generale, se non vengono gestiti con grande attenzione.
